Mallrat sounding fresh with new single ‘Better’
The queen of nonchalant cool, Mallrat, is back with her first new solo single in over a year and you’d better brace your brain because it’s going to be swimming around in there for the rest of the summer.
‘Better’ is Mallrat’s first official release since signing to Dew Process / UMA in Australia and Nettwerk Music Group internationally, and sees the savvy, sharp-witted, Brisbane superstar deliver yet another sparkling jam, with deliciously sweet hooks and a characteristically anthemic chorus.
‘Better’ premiered on triple j’s Good Nights with Linda in Australia and internationally on Stereogum, reinforcing the global appeal of the artist touted early as the “Hannah Montanna of the rap game” and who has since gone on to rack up over 12 million streams on Spotify alone since releasing her debutUninvited EP in 2016.
Speaking about ‘Better,’ Mallrat says, “I wrote ‘Better’ over a year ago but it’s taken most of this time to get it sounding exactly how it does in my head, so thanks for waiting so patiently for new music. My dad says it’s his favourite song, which makes me very excited to share it with everyone.”
Meanwhile, at home in Australia she’s forging a reputation as one of the most endearing live performers in the country, thanks to spots on festivals like Splendour In The Grass and Listen Out, and support slots with the likes of Allday, Peking Duk, and Maggie Rogers.
‘Better’ is taken from her forthcoming sophomore EP, which is set for release in early 2018.
