Young Turks, ClientEarth and DP Immersive present a monumental event, No Coal Zone.

The climate change concert will be a one-night event at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Saturday, 14 March with all proceeds to go towards ClientEarth and Immersive Climate Education.

The unprecedented line-up includes Jamie xx, The Avalanches (DJ set), Midnight Juggernauts (DJ set), Heaps Gay and Friends, Ptwiggs, DeepFaith and a special screening of Jonathan Zawada x Mark Pritchard’s ‘The Four Worlds’.

The mining, transporting and burning of coal is one of the biggest contributors to climate change and we need to take proactive measures to stop it.

ClientEarth are one of the world’s leading environmental law charities. Working in Europe, Asia and Australasia, they use the law to tackle polluting industries and hold governments to account. They are the planet’s best defence against coal and climate change. Their work is critical and now is the time to act and protect our Earth.

Aligning with ClientEarth for No Coal Zone, Jamie xx says: “I’ve spent a lot of time in Australia over the past decade and each time I come I’m inspired to make music. I’m always blown away by its awe-inspiring nature, the unrivalled friendliness of its people and the quality of its Doofs. The loss it’s suffered has been a blow to people all around the world, so it felt only right to come back this year and help raise money through this party.

The work ClientEarth are doing to stop the building of future coal fired power stations will hugely cut the planet’s carbon emissions and will help to slow the devastating effects of global warming.

I’m proud to support them and hope this party can help them in their incredible work. I already offset my own carbon emissions from flying and will certainly be doing so for this gig. Looking forward to seeing all of you soon “

The Avalanches are vocal supporters of making a change and acting to reverse the damages from climate change. Performing at No Coal Zone, Tony Diblasi states “The world can’t stand by and go about business as usual, while the planet suffers. Practices like coal power, that we now know are so harmful to the environment, have to be stopped and replaced with green alternatives. We have the means to make this possible right now! We must act to try and reverse the effects of climate change before it’s too late for our home, planet earth.’’

Adding to Tony’s statement, Robbie Chater (The Avalanches) expresses, “Successive governments have failed us, putting the vested interests of a few before the well-being of us all. We stand alongside anyone willing to fight for change and for what is right.”

We will RAVE to save the planet.

Coal is the dirtiest of all fossil fuels, is the biggest supplier of energy worldwide (38%) and is the biggest contributor to climate change, producing one-third of all global carbon dioxide emissions. One of the most important jobs of the climate movement is to help the world transition from coal as quickly as possible to cleaner energy sources.

Jonathan Zawada x Mark Pritchard’s striking ‘The Four Worlds’ will screen as punters enter the Horden Pavilion. On aligning with No Coal Zone, Jonathan Zawada states “It’s going to take a lot of different changes in the world to avert total climate disaster, but a change to our economic structures is the only one that will make a fundamental difference. I’m excited about how this initiative is setting up to have a large-scale strike at the heart of that.”

There are more than 330 coal fired powered stations in planning (building them would be the equivalent of chopping down 152 billion mature trees), which would decimate any chances of keeping temperature rises below 1.5C. ClientEarth have already stopped the creation of more than 36 planned coal fired power stations globally, and with help will continue to stop these 330 from being built.

Midnight Juggernaut’s / DP Immersive, Daniel Stricker notes “Having seen the effects of climate change first hand on family’s properties from the fires to the floods to work we have been doing in Samoa and in the Northern Territory, it’s an issue close to our hearts and our minds at all times. We need to make a difference systemically. We cannot wait any longer. We stand by Young Turks and others to make the end of coal a reality”.

No Cole Zone is co-presented by Young Turks (influential imprint of XL Recordings: The xx, FKA twigs, Sampha, Jamie xx, Koreless and Kamasi Washington) and DP Immersive (Enabling Education, Mentorship, Symbiotic Business opportunities and positive change with the most engaging medium: VR/AR).

All proceeds to go towards ClientEarth and Immersive Climate Education
